Daniela Palimariu aus Bukarest ist seit Anfang Februar die neue Residentin der message salon embassy in Zürich Nord. Die 1986 geborene Künstlerin ist Mitbegründerin des 2016 eröffneten Artist-Run-Space sandwich gallery,  den sie gemeinsam mit einem kleinen Team in kurzer Zeit erfolgreich zu einem viel beachteten Ausstellungsort und wichtigen Treffpunkt der Bukarester Kunstszene aufgebaut hat.

Sandwich gallery ist ein Ausstellungsraum zwischen zwei Gebäuden einer ehemaligen Farbfabrik, ein bislang enger, unbeachteter Spalt und schmutziger Unort in einem von der Industrie geprägten Quartier ausserhalb des Zentrums der rumänischen Hauptstadt. Sandwich gallery lädt internationale und lokale Kunstschaffende ein, in diesem Zwischenraum eine ortspezifische Installation zu realisieren.

In einer der ersten Ausstellungen der Galerie transformierte Daniela Palimariu den Zwischenraum in einen einfachen Swimmingpool. Die Installation“Pool Party“ wurde während eines Sommers zu einem kleinen Refugium, das sich, dem Wohlbefinden und der Musse verschrieben, dem beschwerlichen Alltag, dem Pessimismus und Fatalismus entgegenstellt. „Pool Party“ ist ein Moment des guten Lebens und der Grosszügigkeit. Daniela Palimarius Installation stellt Fragen zur Möglichkeit der Kunst, sich über ihre freiheitliche, subversive Kraft Räume anzueignen und neue Wahrnehmungen anzustossen.

Daniela Palimariu sucht in Zürich Austausch und Vernetzung mit der lokalen Kunstszene. Die Kunstraumbetreiberin interessiert sich für den gesellschaftlichen Kontext und die kulturpolitische Diskussion in der Kunststadt Zürich. An ihrem Wohn- und Arbeitsort in der Baugenossenschaft mehr als wohnen im Hunzikerareal, trifft sie auf städtebauliche und genossenschaftliche Konzepte.

Im message salon embassy Studio arbeitet die Künstlerin fortlaufend weiter an  Skizzen und Modellen für mögliche Rauminstallationen, die sich dem Wohlbefinden und dem sozialen Austausch widmen. Daniela Palimariu entwirft in abstrakten Collagen Ideen zu Jacuzzi Bädern, Sitzmöbeln oder Aufenthaltsräumen.
Mit typografischen, neonfarbenen Songtext-Botschaften, aus dem Studio hinaus in den Aussenraum, bietet die Künstlerin der Nachbarschaft Kontaktaufahme und Gesprächsstoff an.

Im Rahmen des Kunstfestivals Progetto 6000, welches diesen Frühling in Zürich die junge Kunstszene aus dem Tessin vorstellt, werden Daniela Palimariu und die Künstlerin Marta Margnetti, Mitgründerin des Kunstraums Sonnenstube in Lugano, die Tage über Ostern im Atelier der message salon embassy verbringen. Gemeinsam entwerfen die beiden Künstlerinnen ein Setting für ein öffentliches Get-Together mit Künstlergespräch am Donnerstag 5. April, moderiert von der Le Foyer-Betreiberin Gioia Dal Molin.

Zum Abschluss von Daniela Palimarius Aufenthalt in der message salon embassy lädt Madame l’Ambassadeur zu einer Abschiedsfeier und einer Präsentation des message salon embassy Zine #11 ein.
