The Nieves publishing house was co-founded by graphic designer Benjamin Sommerhalder in Zurich in 2001. Nieves was a pioneer in introducing the notion of the “zine” to the art world. “Fanzine”, originally a cheap and quickly produced fan magazine from the punk and skate scene of the eighties and nineties, has since developed into an independent genre in the field of art publications under the term “zine”. Benjamin Sommerhalder is showing a selection from his private collection of Nieves publications and zines from all over the world, including long out-of-print rarities, publicist finds and treasures, in the “Zine Library” window installation in the corner shop of Perla-Mode.
On the last day of the exhibition, the doors of the shop will be opened, the zines can be browsed, leafed through and viewed, an assortment of Nieves zines will be for sale, the bar will be open and arty snacks will be served.
Benjamin Sommerhalder co-founded Perla-Mode in 2006 and remained part of the Perla-Mode art hub with the Nieves Book Store until 2010. Since then, Nieves has run the bookshop in premises at Ankerstrasse 20 in Zurich. Benjamin Sommerhalder is now returning to Langstrasse with “Zine Library”, in the shop windows of Perla-Mode.
