message salon is Esther Eppstein’s art project, since 1996.
The salon, the bringing together of different people in the context of art, the connection of creators from all directions, the setting and the documentation of the happening, is what Esther Eppstein defines as her art.
In 1996 in Zürich, Esther Eppstein opens the off-space „message salon“, which in the following years becomes an important meeting place and influential experimental platform of the Zurich art scene, at changing locations – ending in December 2013 at the art hub Perla-Mode on Langstrasse. Since 2015, Esther Eppstein is expanding the art space message salon into a nomadic Artist-Run Artist-Residence-Project „message salon embassy“.

message salon embassy invites international artists to spend time in Zürich. Madame l’Ambassadeur Esther Eppstein takes the guests on an expedition into the Zürich art scene, initiates contacts and meetings with personalities, in off-spaces, institutions or galleries, new friendships and networks form. A “Fanzine” concludes every stay, a limited edition publication, which is presented at a public event.
Esther Eppstein has received multiple awards for her artistic and educational work, by the Canton and City of Zürich, among others, as well as by the Federal Department of Culture (Bundesamt für Kultur). In 2016, the publisher Scheidegger & Spiess Zürich releases the monograph „Esther Eppstein message salon“. Works by Esther Eppstein/message salon are part of the collections of the Kunsthaus Zürich and Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zürich. In 2021, Esther Eppstein receives The Swiss Grand Award for Art / Prix Meret Oppenheim for her life work.
