In their joint exhibition “Supermahlstrom”, the two friends Dirk Meinzer and Peter Stoffel are showing current works in the large room of Perla-Mode and in the message salon on the first floor.
Dirk Meinzer’s objects and paintings made from found and everyday materials appear like ethnological finds of a civilisation in a culture clash. These are juxtaposed with Peter Stoffel’s drawings and paintings, which take a classic motif of landscape painting, the sea and mountains, into abstract fields of colour and structure, with the artist asking himself and the audience fundamental questions about painting and its current position in contemporary art.
With the exhibition “Supermahlstrom”, Dirk Meinzer concludes a stay of several months in the guest studio of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Zürcher Bildhauer AZB, at Gaswerk Schlieren. The Hamburg artist first appeared at the message salon in 2005, in a guest exhibition at the Geneva art space Planet22 by Peter Stoffel and Solvej Dufour Andersen. The current joint exhibition “Supermahlstrom” is thus also characterised by this long-standing artistic friendship and is an expression of the solidarity and exchange between artists from Zurich, Geneva and Hamburg.
