Since the beginning of October, black and white risographs with portraits whose faces and heads have been edited, alienated and modified have been on display in the Perla-Mode shop window on Brauerstrasse. The photographic series “Pictures of Odradek” is the first joint work by Paola Caputo and Linda Suter.
In their exhibition “Bastard & Blendling” at message salon, the two photographers pursue and expand the technique of manipulation in photography. Using a wide variety of materials such as wood, stone, paper or fabric, they stage plant-like structures and light objects in their photographs. The graphic realisation of the photos, printed on paper with a risograph, creates new types of aestheticised mutants, between beauty and decay. Placed in artificial light, the two artists design and breed illusions and realities in their pictures, citing surrealism and the technique of collage.
Paola Caputo and Linda Suter thematise photography itself in their exhibition. Photography depicts, asserts, manipulates and obscures the boundaries between lies and truth, falsification and authenticity, and not just since digital image processing has once again called our perception of the true image into question.
