Christa Ziegler is a traveller, the camera her observant companion.
For the artist, the city, the metropolis, is a fascinating place of encounter. Cultures, people and concepts collide in the hustle and bustle of the streets and rows of houses. The city is the model of a globalised world. It is the civilisation created by man, where new ideas are born, where innovation and culture flourish. But the city is also a Moloch, a place of lost dreams and hopes. In Christa Ziegler’s black-and-white photographs, we recognise the people, the urban formations spread across the continents of this earth like termite structures, the urbanisation of the world progressing inexorably before our eyes.
