Roy Menachem Markovich is the second guest of the message salon embassy. His art in video, installation, sculpture and performance is humorous, narrative and witty, taking a look at contemporary Israeli society. The artist is currently on the road in Tel Aviv, especially with his tongue-in-cheek, witty sound project Señor Sandwich in bars, art spaces and clubs.
In Zurich, Roy Menachem Markovich will be making new sound systems and scouring flea markets and Zurich’s streets for unused or discarded loudspeakers and electronic waste. At the message salon brick party in the Rote Fabrik, Señor Sandwich will play a set with his self-constructed, electronically wired and lovingly topped salad synthesiser sandwiches and tuna beat bagels. At the end of the residency, Roy Menachem Markovich aka Señor Sandwich publishes the message salon embassy Zine No. 2, which is celebrated with another performance by Señor Sandwich.
Roy Menachem Markovitch (born 1979 in Tel Aviv), showed his first exhibition at message salon in Perla-Mode in 2012 and has since appeared repeatedly with message salon. The video installation ‘… And we worked’ won the jury prize at the Kunst13 art fair in Zurich.
I look forward to seeing you again at Grubenstrasse! Your Madame l’Ambassadeur Esther Eppstein
