Daniela Palimariu has been a resident at the message salon embassy in Zurich North since the beginning of February. In Zurich, the artist seeks exchange and networking with the local art scene. As an art space operator, she is also interested in cultural policy discussions, urban planning concepts and art in public spaces.
In her studio, she sketches models for possible spatial installations dedicated to well-being and social exchange. In collages, she designs unconventional ideas for jacuzzi baths, seating furniture or recreation rooms. With typographic, neon-coloured song text messages, directed out of the studio in the Hunzikerareal and into the outdoor space, the artist offers the neighbourhood something to get in touch with and talk about.
Daniela Palimariu (1986) is co-founder of the artist-run space sandwich gallery in Bucharest, which opened in 2016 and which she and a small team have quickly turned into a highly regarded exhibition venue and important meeting point for the Bucharest art scene. Sandwich gallery is an exhibition space between two buildings of a former paint factory, a previously narrow, unnoticed gap and dirty non-place in an industrial neighbourhood outside the centre of the Romanian capital. Sandwich gallery invites artists to realise a site-specific installation in this peculiar intermediate space.
