The dancer Rafał Pierzyński is the second guest at message salon embassy’s new location in Zürich Nord. Rafał Pierzyński was born in 1991 in a small town named Bełchatów near Łódź. He left the Polish province at a young age to attend art school in Krakow and then went to Linz, Austria to study contemporary dance and performance at Anton Bruckner University, receiving his Master’s degree in 2017.
During his studies, Rafał Pierzyński tried to find his own artistic language, his own modes of expression that dissolve the boundaries between art and dance, sometimes seeking a context outside of the classical stage. Aga Pędziwiatr, a Polish performer of the same age, is a worthy partner in crime. Under the moniker DIVAS, the two performers participated in the international artist expedition Sound Development City in 2016. In its performances and rituals, Divas is concerned with movement, corporeality, sexuality, dreams and ecstasy, and experiments not only with the body, but also with video, music, text, installation, and chemical and ethereal substances.
During his eleven-week residency at message salon embassy, Rafał Pierzyński will invite diverse people to the studio to participate in conversations, games and workshops on the manifold aspects of movement, body and corporeality.
The artist studio in the Hunzikerareal will become a sanctuary and an intimate salon, the non-public conversations and interactions will serve as research, as well as the basis for future Divas projects. At the end of the residency, message salon embassy will publish a limited-edition zine, to be presented at a public event.
During Rafał Pierzyńskis’ stay in Zurich, Divas will join the local scene with performances, interventions and collaborations. For the project Show-off, Divas will perform an original piece at the Tanzhaus in Zürich; on the occasion of the Porny-Days-Festival, Divas will lead a group of sexy guests in sashaying down Langstrasse to the artspace Raumstation. Finally, they will take part in the performance festival Stereoskop in the Wunderkammer at the Glattpark in Zürich Nord.
