Four weeks ago, Ninutsa Shatberashvili and Sandro Sulaberidze moved into the message salon embassy Zurich North as artists in residence and are now inviting all interested parties to a Georgian banquet, to ‘Pur – Marili’, to ‘Bread and Salt’ in their studio in Schwamendingen.
Georgian tradition emphasises hospitality, and eating and drinking together at a large and richly laid table, the ‘supra’, follows traditional rituals. Traditional dishes are generously served and plenty of wine is drunk. Led by the table master, the tamada, witty and quick-witted speeches are made about friendship, parents and family, those present and absent and especially the deceased.
Ninutsa Shatberashvili and Sandro Sulaberidze cook the traditional dishes themselves and invite guests to join in the cooking on Saturday afternoon. While cooking together, guests will learn new things about the traditional, highly acclaimed Georgian cuisine, which is considered to be a cultural asset of the Georgians. While chopping coriander or coring pomegranates, the kitchen helpers also learn more about the lives of young artists in Tbilisi, about their hopes, assessments and wishes for the present and future of their small country, which is in a state of upheaval and change.
Guests are welcome to join the banquet at any time during the evening. All are invited to dine at the message salon embassy Zürich Nord, just bring a bottle of wine!
