In her multimedia solo exhibition “Selina Trepp 2007–2017”, the Chicago-based American-Swiss artist presents her vision of a future retrospective, beginning with her latest installation, “No one is an Island, 2007”, in the large room at Perla-Mode.
Mirror objects reflect video projections in the room. The film protagonists face each other in kaleidoscopic mirror images and sounds, creating a magical, otherworldly atmosphere. The video installation “No one is an Island” deals with human communication and the longing for connection in a common language, and for overcoming loneliness in the world.
In the message salon on the first floor of Perla-Mode, twelve framed texts written in pencil on paper each describe a work of the future, beginning with the title of the exhibition, “Selina Trepp 2007–2017,” and the work now on display at Perla-Mode, “No one is an Island, 2007.” Selina Trepp’s drawings imitate the text panels that usually provide art audiences with information about the exhibited work in museums or galleries. The text drawing, reduced to a list of information, becomes a work in its own right. With titles, details of materials and dates, the panels give viewers clues to create the work in their own imagination.
The twelve pages of “Selina Trepp 2007-2017” will be published as a zine for the current exhibition, in a limited edition of 100 copies.
