Christa Ziegler presents “Bilder zum Mitnehmen” (Pictures to Take Away) at the message salon – and that’s exactly what it is. The Zurich-based artist presents her photography as a poster edition entitled “o. t (Untitled/Object trouvé)” fresh from the printers. Visitors are invited to combine the double-sided, edited sheets as they wish and take them home with them as a poster booklet, for free.
Christa Ziegler’s analogue photographs have been taken since 2001 on her walks through the city of Zurich. The image collection “o. t (Untitled/Object trouvé)” is an atmospherically condensed, photographic essay on the city as a habitat, the city and its individual faces, its stories and moments. The artist is the traveller with an ethnographic eye, the camera captures the moment. With “Pictures to go”, Christa Ziegler gives the city back the pictures she has “taken”. She says about her photography: “The immediacy of the images is a method of capturing the many impressions that overwhelm the traveller. But the pictures also often serve as proof that you were really there.”
The poster sheets installed on a pedestal in the art space form a large, complete picture in the room. With the option of freely selecting the sheets and compiling a poster booklet, visitors to the exhibition interact with the photography and expand the application of the images through their own cross-references and associations.
