The experimental performance “Born To Lose” brings together musicians from different genres in an audiovisual revue show created by Karin Müller. Live music meets the language of film.
“Born To Lose” is the further development of a video performance that Karin Müller first realised in March at the visite ma tente gallery in Berlin with Berlin musicians. For the updated performance, Karin Müller invites local musicians to Perla-Mode to add music to her video clips. The artist has pre-produced eight different videos. Each of the invited musicians is assigned a video, based on which they develop a free musical commentary, a soundtrack that is ultimately performed live in front of an audience during the projection of the video clip.

Karin Müller uses film clips from well-known Hollywood films as source material for her videos. The artist filters film sequences of intense, overwhelming emotions, protagonists in pain, grief or loneliness. The film fragments are looped, mixed, dissected, overwritten and recombined. Disconnected from their narrative content, the film sequences become a kind of microscopic research material on the representation of emotion in Hollywood films.
