The question of their own identity has always preoccupied Jews – because there are no definitive answers. That is now set to change, say genetic researchers, who are launching a test that promises to provide clarification. As innovative as the technology used may be, the hypothesis of the existence of a “Jewish gene” is by no means new.
Marina Belobrovaja has investigated this phenomenon. Her artistic research in the form of personal statements from Switzerland, Germany, Israel and Ukraine culminated in the art publication The DNA Project.
The artist Marina Belobrovaja, winner of the 2009 Omanut Prize, presents and explains her DNA project in conversation with art historian Katarina Holländer. Jochi Weil, Daniel Schächter and author Johanna Lier are invited to join the discussion.
