The music label “Dumpf Edition” presents the new LP “Zwischen” by the artist and musician Karen Geyer (Grauton), who works in New York and Zurich. To mark the occasion, Karen Geyer and Martin Lorenz will each play a concert at message salon, in the large room of Perla-Mode.
Karen Geyer and Martin Lorenz derive the sounds and tones of their music from materials and objects. Karen Geyer uses piezo technology to amplify fans, spinning bicycle wheels or bubbling kettles into sounds, while Martin Lorenz uses hand-carved vinyl discs.
By meticulously preparing the sound objects, Karen Geyer utilises the obstinacy of the objects as an accidental means of form. The installation, carefully arranged and illuminated on site, is subjected to an acoustic and visual process in the performance.
Martin Lorenz starts from algorithmically composed musical fragments, which in turn are superimposed and randomly combined in the live performance.
The compositions by Karen Geyer and Martin Lorenz manifest themselves in the precise composition of sound material and musical elements that are varied in the performance. The two performances show their different positions in a narrowly defined segment of the concept composition.
The composer, drummer and DJ Martin Lorenz and the music label he founded for experimental composition and music, ‘Dumpf Edition’, have already played several concerts and shown an exhibition at message salon.
