Match cuts, a term from the film industry, refers to links that connect and transition scenes and themes musically or visually. pulp.noir uses this technique, based on concepts, to demonstrate trains of thought. Matchcuts plays with the similarity of formal or content-related elements. The chain of associations is reminiscent of the logic of (day)dreams, transforming free-flowing thoughts into an absurd sequence of sounds and images. absurd-surreal chains of associations made up of sampled sounds, words and visuals are central to the realisation of the mostly ambivalent themes, which are linked in terms of content but come from completely different contexts. pulp.noir’s video clips are looped trains of thought in an endless loop. The aesthetics and presentation are reminiscent of a computer game; the individual clips can be accessed on the matchcuts.ch website, sorted by terms such as “fake”, “eating”, “progressing” or “oil”. In the interactive room installation in Perla-Mode, the matchcuts clips can be selected and accessed via the website in a projection and on several screens equipped with headphones.
