Rich Bott has moved into the studio at the Hotel. The American artist from Los Angeles is picking up where he left off in Zurich: in 2008, he held an exhibition at the message salon, the Perla-Mode on Langstrasse.
Rich Bott roams through second-hand shops and flea markets, finds catalogues, magazines and vinyl records, collects and invents Zurich German terms, and tests Switzerland for its folklore and everyday consumer kitsch. Rich Bott also eats bratwurst and rösti, always on the lookout for the “Geissengeist” (spirit of the goat).
At the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse, in Suite 724, Rich Bott present a message salon embassy fanzine featuring drawings, found objects and texts created during his stay in Zurich. The launch of the publication will be accompanied by a video screening on the hotel TV, followed by a discussion between artist Rich Bott and film scholar Marcy Goldberg on VHS video art, American media and pop culture, Zurich and Los Angeles, Californian lifestyle, surfing, Geissengeist and Zurich’s Oberer Letten river pool.
