The record store used to be the (social) place where you could discover new bands and new music while rummaging through the record crates. Nowadays, this happens on the internet and the record store has almost completely lost its significance as a meeting place and information hub.
But now there is Ronny Hunger’s “Record Store” at message salon! The musician, poster designer and concert organiser has staged his record store as a mixture of music shop, art installation and meeting place for music lovers. The shop features 200 unique record sleeves designed by Ronny Hunger, each containing an equally individual sampler with eight songs from mostly young and up-and-coming bands that Ronny Hunger has tracked down on the limitless Internet with the concert organiser’s good nose. In the “Record Store”, the audience first selects and buys the appealing record cover, and the hidden music can then be listened to digitally at home using a code on the Internet. With “Record Store”, Ronny Hunger combines the dwindling culture of the analogue record store with the new, electronic distribution of music.
On Saturday, 31 March, concert promoter Ronny Hunger will open his Zurich underground concert venue “Elmo Delmo Bar” in Perla-Mode for one evening, with live concerts and vinyl record DJs!
