The black hole, the astronomical object, radiates extreme gravity. In its spatial region, space-time is distorted to such an extent that nothing can leave the object, not even light. However, direct observation of a black hole is considered impossible, but it reveals itself through the matter it swallows.
Nora Steiner paints black holes (schwarze Löcher). Her starting point is classical painting, which is dedicated to materiality, process, illusion and reduction. The idea of painting something that exists, but of which there is no image, brought the artist to the subject. Her painting is a kind of aesthetic research process, a visual approach to the unknown.
At Perla-Mode, Nora Steiner is showing a solo exhibition on three floors with paintings, video installations and “Candy”, a machine construction made from a trumped-up V8 combustion engine that revs up a dented washing machine. “Candy” is also the protagonist in the video “Big Candy”, which is being shown for the first time. In the style of an instructional video, viewers learn what the washing machine, the metal balls and the Range Rover combustion engine are all about.
“Güterbahnhof” fashion show by Regula Rohner in the shop windows of Perla-Mode
Fashion and textile designer Regula Rohner lived in a caretaker’s flat in the SBB freight station (SBB-Güterbahnhof) in district 4 until it was demolished in May 2013. The “Güterbahnhof” fashion show is her personal memorial to a piece of Zurich’s architectural history that has disappeared. The motifs of the fabrics for the swimwear and leggings are based on research into the building, which was built in 1897. All dresses are for sale. Performers/ Models: TeKi TeKua, Dance Company Zurich
