Temps Calmes

Artist Residence, 15 June to 3 July, at the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse

Saturday, 2 July, 5 pm Calendar Vernissage with homemade sourdough focaccia
message salon embassy Réception, Köchlistrasse 5, 8004 Zurich

Pauline Beaudemont is a guest of the message salon embassy, in the studio of the 25hours Hotel on Langstrasse. She is accompanied by a sourdough mother who could not stay behind in Paris on her own. The living organism needs care and must be regularly fed with flour and water.
During her stay in Zurich, Pauline Beaudemont also cultivates and reactivates friendships and networks. Born and raised in Paris, Pauline Beaudemont’s artistic path is closely linked to Switzerland; she studied photography in Lausanne and then art in Geneva, graduating with a Master’s degree in 2013. Her surrealist, feminist-poetic installations, drawings, sculptures, texts and objects hover between states, in dreams and in the imagination; the influences of her idol Meret Oppenheim are unmistakable. The artist is also involved in the art community and runs the artist-run space Artemis Fontana in Paris.

During her artist residency in Zurich, the artist visits friends in their studio or at home with an analogue compact camera. Meanwhile, the sourdough mother rests in her hotel room in the cool minibar and continues to ferment. Relaxation, doing nothing and drifting off, rest and sleep are moments of happiness for the artist, a state of being at peace with itself. The photographs taken in Zurich show people at rest, taking a break and relaxing, in a state of not wanting anything and not having to do anything, disconnecting from activity and accessibility, indulging in thoughts and gazing into the clouds.

To mark the end of her stay, message salon embassy is publishing the birthday calendar “Temps Calmes” with the artist and the photographs she took in Zurich. Pauline Beaudemont will be serving homemade focaccia made from the sourdough she brought with her to the vernissage.
