In the new exhibition series “Die message salon Diele”, Davix is showing an installation with works from his studio in Lucerne in the window of the art space Die Diele.
Davix’s painting quotes abstract-expressive painting of the sixties, the aesthetics of pop art, influenced by techno, video clips, computer games and graffiti. Abstract, strictly geometric areas of colour compete with expressive brushwork, patterns, repetition and traces scratch the perfect surface. Painting is the reference, nature in its most wondrous existence a universal language of form and colour. The miracle of life is complex and yet a repetition in endless variation.
Is painting a kind of microscope? An attempt to approach life in its entirety – inwardness and materiality – and to depict, come close to, somehow understand nature and its irrevocable laws, which include man and his psyche?
From the rhythm of the brush to the rhythm of the music. Davix has been a drummer for 30 years, was on the road with the legendary Lucerne post-punk band Steven’s Nude Club in the 1980s and is still involved in various band projects today. On Saturday 27 April, Davix will be playing a concert with his current Lucerne jazz-punk band “Loren” in the charming allotment garden ‘2-2=0’ behind the seven tracks at Schöneggplatz in Zurich Aussersihl. His message salon embassy zine “Tracks’”will be published on this occasion.
Esther Eppstein has a long-standing friendship and collaboration with Davix; the artist and musician has repeatedly exhibited at message salon since 1995. Davix is artist in residence at the message salon embassy, at the 25hours Hotel Langstrasse, 16 April to 2 May
