message salon embassy is Esther Eppstein’s art project.
The salon, the coming together of different people in the context of art, the networking of creatives from various directions, the setting and documentation of the happenings – all of this is part of what Esther Eppstein defines as her artistic practice.
message salon embassy invites international artists to spend time in Zurich. Madame l’Ambassadeur Esther Eppstein facilitates her artists’ in residence forging of contacts and encounters with the local art scene, and with arts mediators in institutions and galleries, and joins them in making new connections and friendships.
At the end of each residency the artist produce a zine, which is then presented and celebrated in the context of a public event.
In 1996 Esther Eppstein opened ‘message salon’, an art space in Zurich. In the years following and in changing locations it became an important meeting point and platform for the local art scene – until it closed its doors in 2013 at the art space ‘Perla-Mode’ on Langstrasse. In 2015 Esther Eppstein converted the message salon embassy art space into an artist in residence project called ‘message salon embassy’.
