The first of five artist residencies at message salon embassy Zurich Nord, at the housing cooperative mehr als wohnen, is coming to an end.
Madame l’Ambassadeur and the artists in residence Ninutsa Shatberashvili and Sandro Sulaberidze, members of the artist collective Obscura in Tbilisi, are inviting old acquaintances, newly-made friends and anyone else who is interested to the presentation of the publication “Pur – Marili / პურ – მარილირ – მარილი.” The event will take place at the artist studio in Zurich Schwamendingen.
During their 11-week residence, Ninutsa Shatberashvili and Sandro Sulaberidze explored the city of Zurich and the Zurich art scene with Madame l’Ambassadeur, made new acquaintances and liaised with art world actors. The young photographers used their time at the studio to experiment with photography, painting and drawing, and they even created their own experimental analogue DIY-camera, featuring 15000 lenses – like the eye of an insect.
In September, Ninutsa Shatberashvili and Sandro Sulaberidze hosted a Georgian Pur – Marili / პურ – მარილი (bread and salt) evening, at message salon embassy’s studio in Zürich Nord. Guests brought wine and enjoyed Georgian fare and hospitality. Cucumber salad with walnuts, eggplant rolls with herb tapenade and pomegranate seeds, bean stew, chicken in tomato-coriander sauce, baked quince and pumpkin covered the traditionally embroidered tablecloth. In addition, there were six analogue cameras, so guests could snap pictures whenever they liked during the course of the evening.
The Georgian feast in the studio and the analogue photos from the collected cameras form the basis of the limited-edition message salon embassy Zine Nr.8, which will be distributed for free at the closing party held at the studio.
