Hospitality is a very important part of the Georgian tradition: Communal eating and drinking at a Supra’, a lavishly set table, is a venerable ritual. Generous portions of traditional fare are passed around and the wine flows freely. The table master or Tamada leads an impassioned round of speeches about friendship, parents and family, those present and absent, and especially, those who have passed away.

Four weeks ago, Ninutsa Shatberashvili and Sandro Sulaberidze became the first artists in residence at message salon embassy’s new location in Zürich Nord. Now they are inviting new friends, neighbors and anyone else who is interested to the studio in Schwamendingen for a Georgian ‘Pur – Marili’ or ‘bread and salt’ banquet.
Guests can part in the ceremony at any time during the evening, just byow. Ninutsa Shaberashvili and Sandro Sulaberidze will cook all the traditional dishes themselves, and guests are welcome to help with the preparation on Saturday afternoon (please sign up via email: email hidden; JavaScript is required).

By cooking together, guests have the opportunity to learn about the renowned traditional cuisine of Georgia. While chopping coriander or deseeding pomegranates, guests learn about the lives of young artists in modern-day Tbilisi, about their estimation of and hopes and dreams for, the present and future of their small country, in the middle of upheaval and awakening.
